Quilt Preparation
  • Keep quilt layers separate; no pinning or basting is needed.
  • Top must be clean and pressed flat. Clip all stray threads.
  • Top should be free of embellishments, if possible. Only Free-Hand and Custom
quilting designs can be chosen for quilts with three-dimensional work.
  • Top should be as square as possible. Borders that do not lay flat may result in tucks
    or pleats.
  • If outer border is heavily pieced (like "piano keys" or "checker board"), stay stitch
    outer edge.
  • Indicate top of quilt (and backing) with a safety pinned note.
Backing
  • The backing should be 6" bigger than the top. For example, if your quilt top
    measures 50" x 70" then your backing should measure at least 56" x 76".
  • Do not use bed sheets for backing. The weave is generally much tighter than 100%
cotton which may cause uneven or skipped stitches.
  • When choosing your backing, please keep in mind the thread colors of both top and
bobbin threads. High contrast, like white on top and dark blue in the bobbin, may
result in blue "dots" on the top. My preference is to choose a pattern fabric instead of
solid backing and matching the top and bobbin threads, but the choice is yours.
  • Pieced backings (like back art) are acceptable, but I cannot guarantee that the
backing will be 100% centered with the top.
Batting
  • I have batting available, two weights of polyester, 2 weights of cotton, and a poly-
    cotton blend.
  • If you supply your own batting, make sure that it is at least 6" bigger than your quilt
    top.
Quilting Prices
  • To calculate quilting cost multiply the quilt top length x width x quilting price. For
example: Your top measures 50" x 70" and you want a freehand all-over design,
    your cost would be: 50 x 70 x .015 = $52.50
  • Minimum charge $35.00
  • Prices effective August 2007 and are subject to change without notice.
  • Addition charges may apply for mending, pressing, excessive thread clipping (yours
not mine), drastically wavy or un-square borders, shipping and insurance.
